How Local Can You Go?

The carbon footprint our food leaves from farmgate to table is astonishing. We are polluting the earth by consuming foods not grown here.

The very foods, that can be grown easily here, are coming from faraway lands. What boggles the mind is that they are being imported even in the season.
Yes, In winter, or when it comes to tropical fruits, we might not have much choice.

Do we have to import lettuce and tomatoes in the summer?

It doesn’t have to be this way.
But, Times are a changin!

There are revolutionaries at the front.

Many dedicated people are fighting to stop this destruction by farming close to where people live most. We have urban and suburban farmers growing vegetables and fruits in microfarms located within city limits. Our provincial farmers are making a difference by taking part in farmers markets to get the food to the people directly.

Now we have the technology and resources to extend the farming season. Greenhouses, row covers and high tunnels are making it possible to grow vegetables in the cold season.

And above all, we have earth-conscious people who are ready to pay a bit more than the supermarket prices for the locally grown food.

Thanks to them, we are seeing urban farming, locavore movement and farmers markets taking off.

We are trying to do our share by growing vegetables, flowers, fruits and plants from our microfarm in our backyard in Scarborough.

How local can we go than this?

By supporting local farmers like us, you are saving our Mother Earth.

We can’t thank you enough!
